Nevertheless, my first post was back in November 2006, how much more do I have to offer? How much more am I prepared to give? Is anybody interested in my thoughts? Do I care about theirs?

Vox is great, but, yes, you only get out what you put in; you need to cultivate your 'vox relationships' . . .

Bikes, bikes, bikes!
Finally re-animated my old mountain bike - it's truly a bike-enstein, there's about 6 bikes that have gone into one! Blimey!

Another road bike on the way . . . single speed. I'm not hip enough for a fixie . . .

So, I'm pretty tired and don't know what to write.
I feel a bit useless when it comes to this blog/social networking bizzo, a bit non-committal.

Bats

Every evening as the sun sets,  many fruit bats fly over out house, heading - strangely - west.
This was my best attempt at capturing two of them on their way.

Also, I finally mastered poached eggs.
Sounds silly I know, but I'd never learned.
I'm quite chuffed :)

Been reading a book on the Australian language. Now the book was written - let me check - 1966, so it's interesting from a historical point of view (of course). Fascinating. Well, some bits are a bit boring.

Here's an interesting bit, a section from the chapter "The City Yesterday", entitled "Popular Jargon":

dip one's lid, to raise one's hat
fed with, "fed up with", of which it is an abbreviation
laughing gear, (false) teeth

sweet, ready, prepared, satisfied
throw a map, to be sick
toey, worried or anxious, nervously alert

That'll do. There's heaps of other glossaries of slang etc. Some words are still used today, though it seems to me that our language is a whole lot less colourful. Which is a shame, I suppose.

The book's called "The Australian Language" and it's written by Sidney J. Baker.

It's probably on US itunes, but it's not on Australian itunes. Sucks.

Annnd we have a new Prime Minister, maybe I won't have the dilemma of choosing the least evil country to move to anymore (fingers crossed).
